Everything You Need To Get Started
Your kit includes all the essentials to start stitching - your needlepoint canvas, coordinating threads, needle, scissors, and everything you need to bring your design to life.
Let's Get Stitching
You've got this! Follow these simple steps and you'll be stitching in no time.
1. Pick Your Thread
Choose the color you want to start with. Cut a piece of thread about 18 inches long - roughly fingertip to elbow. Longer isn't always better; extra-long thread can tangle and fray.
2. Thread Your Needle
Slide one end of the thread through the eye of your needle. Pull a few inches through. No knot needed!
3. Start Your Thread
Begin from the back of the canvas and bring your needle up through the first hole. Leave about a 1-inch tail on the back. As you make your first few stitches, stitch over the tail to secure it.
4. Make Your First Stitch
For a basic continental stitch, bring your needle up through the bottom-left hole of the square and take it down through the top-right hole.
Think: bottom left to top right.
Keep repeating the same diagonal stitch across the area you're working on.
5. Keep Your Tension Easy
Pull the thread snug, but not too tight. Your stitches should lie smoothly on the canvas without pulling or warping it.
6. Changing Colors
When you're ready for a new color, turn your canvas over and run your needle underneath a few stitches on the back. Trim the extra thread, choose your next color, and start again.
7. Finish Your Thread
Running low on thread? Flip your canvas over, weave your needle underneath 3-4 stitches on the back, and trim the excess.
8. Keep Stitching!
Don't worry about making every stitch perfect. Needlepoint is supposed to be relaxing and fun -- and you'll get more comfortable with every stitch.
